Texas,
East of Here
I sit on my front porch & watch
them
dance in affectionate companionship, drinking
their Lone Star beer until they reunite
as brothers of the soil, endowed
with greater space than most
of us, destined to boast
of Bar-B-Q, two-steppin'
like they never had
a broken heart

Hardworking
Man
Isn't this always the case,
the title of a poem by some
half-ass poet who the Lord Himself
has to kick in the other half
of his ass just to get
him started in
the morning.

was Two Months Pregnant, Unmarried, Living With a Brutal Man
Without regard for tradition,
the cold music of disintegration, what
love is & what love isn't, who gets
the baby, who gets the shaft.

Freedom
Pervasive print, rusty wheels,
say "bullshit" if you want to, coffee's
good & cold & Papa's laid off again,
take the interstate, take the bus,
take the baby & His Momma,
become a half-ass
goodwill
Ambassador for America
just lookin' out upon.
